Training maps, tips and stuff

After a potentially serious accident involving Bruno, the committee have decided to offer some tips and advice on training, including places where training can be done in relative safety.  Firstly, do not train alone,  if you must, then be in an area where cell phones work; you have someone you can call and you've left your itinerary with.  That person should know who to call if you are unusually late returning i.e. training partner/committee member.  Do not park your car in remote or in secure military areas, try asking a resident if you can leave your car outside his house while you train.  Try and change your routine where possible, i.e. don't train in the same place always on the same day and at the same time.

Also, after changes to local hospital policy regarding blood, we have updated the membership form and are asking if members are willing to donate blood, in the event of an emergency to a fellow member.

Unless you have a turbo, your only option is go out on the open road, so time of day and location are to be seriously considered.  By default, the areas where we race are considered as safe as we can make them, but that's early on Friday mornings,  at other times they could be totally unsuitable.  Groups do meet up and train every non-race weekend, so make contact with them if possible.  The links below show you where we race, plus some other places we've used in the past, so our advice is to recce them beforehand, at the time and day you intend to train there.  BE SAFE!

Wednesday Evening 10ml TT League (summer off-season only)

 Due to a relaxation in security, we plan to re-run the informal 10 mile TT league again. 

The loose format is as follows:

• Start date of 27^th April 2011, then continue every Wednesday until the new season starts or it gets too dark to continue
• Meet-up any time after 16:15
• The course starts next to the Armco barrier and turns just before the barrels.  Start/finish and turn will be clearly marked
• In the absence of a time-keeper, riders will time themselves using bike computers/cell phones etc
• Send your time/times to Rob, with a description of the conditions and any other incident/performance worth noting (there have been a few "moments" over the years!)
• This is a social and training get-together so don't take it too seriously
• TT rules, no drafting
• Bring your own drinks
• Course record is 22 something, I'll check the archives
• Don't leave rubbish and don't upset the locals who may be picnicking in the area
• Obey the security police if they ask you to leave
• Report immediately the presence of wires or battery chargers connected to Bruno's bike
• If competitors agree to contribute SR5 each week, we'll get T-shirts printed, designed by Jun
• The results coordinator will not accept Paul's times unless timed by a reliable 3rd party
• Directions: go towards KKIA and take Private Aviation exit to the right.  Turn immediately right past the airport Met Centre, carry on straight for 1km (approx) and take right turn at X roads.  Go straight for a few hundred yards and park on the right next to the  good road running parallel to airport road.  This is the S/F but you can also park half way up the course and ride back to the start.  This is a good idea if you don't carry a spare, so you won't have too far to ride back to the cars.

It is with great shock, sorrow and sadness, we report the death of fellow member John Currie whilst out training with friends.  Our prayers, thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this tragic time.
